My wife and I are looking to relocate and open or buy a small business in CR. We have about 20K in savings and are looking to go within the next 2 to 4 years. In that time we are going to save an additional 15 to 20K and my wife will gain her US citizenship, she was born in CR. I am 29 and she is 19, she has a lot of family there and we have no children and no debt. We are looking to open or buy a small cafe type business around a touristy area and live in the same area as well, we hate long commutes. Any suggestions and/or comments would be greatly helpful and appreciated. Thank You.

Sounds like you are in for a great adventure.   The amount of capital you will be working with is very small, so my feeling is that you should try to get into an area that is up and coming.  You could invest part of your capital on a good property in a good location.  Then you could use another part to open your business.

As always, you should make sure to get into an area where your objectives, budget and lifestyle fit the existing community.

Hi Rob,

I own Jaime Peligro, a CD & book shop in Playa Tamarindo. After 5 years here, we have decided to offer 2 franchises for this year. Please let me knnow if you are interested. I do agree with Russ that you need to take a good look at your funds. Best of luck to you!
