Relocating From Spain

G'day,
my wife and I are British and have lived in Spain for the last seven years.  We now feel it's time to sell up and relocate and with that in mind are coming on a 'recce' in Aug/Sept for 4 weeks to look at property to buy funded by the sale of our property here.  We are 'Pensionistas' and have 'Residencia' here in Spain.  Would the paperwork required for applying for residence in CR be the same for us as for
Spanish nationals?

I don't think your residency in Spain would affect your processing here in Costa Rica, as the law is basically the same no matter if you are US citizens, UK, Spanish, Italian, or Martian.  You can have a look at the requirements via these articles:

The main obstacle you will face is maybe making sure that your British documents are authenticated, which will have to be done by the Costa Rican embassy or consul in Britain, rather than the one in Spain.
