I am considering purchasing a lot in Pura Vida Estates near the town of Jaco. The developer is Paradise International Properties of Costa Rica. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with this developer or know anything about them? Would this be considered to be a safe investment? To those of you who know the country, how does this area compare with Guanacaste which is to the north? Any insight would be appreciated. Rich

Hi Rich, thank you for participating.

I would first direct you to our Developer Quiz, that is a good basic guide to see how open the developer is with the information they are giving you.

I have to say that I don't know the development or the developers by this name, but it has the same m.o. as telemarketing pros that have caused a lot of people a lot of grief (very little info about the project, 1/4 acre parcel, very cheap prices, send money first - ask questions later).

So in any case be very careful and follow these guidelines:
- Don't send money first, see the property first
- Don't fall for outrageous claims about cheap property tripling or going up 30 times in value in short periods of time.
- Remember to that it is very easy to make enthusiastic claims about an area, does the property really offer the benefits of that area - or is it actually located outside that area.

Investing in Costa Rica real estate can be profitable, and living here is enjoyable, but you have to do your homework and make good decisions.

Hi Rich
I just got an answer from a good and honest agent in Jaco, Jeff Fisher of www.crbeach.com
He wrote me the following: Ivo, I know these guys from Pura Vida, because I know one of their phone room operators in Florida. They are a fast talking Paragon wannabbee type of group. This means that after they do their heavy promo sales for this project, located in Herradura, they will go on to the next. Just like Costa Developers, Paragon, and Columbus Heights, it will be impossible to resell the clients land, because these guys will do the next project with the same lower prices.

You can contact Jeff at greatplaces@hotmail.com as he knows the area very well and can help you out in that area better than most.

I hope this helps
