We were told by friends, a family of Ticos, not to buy in the Cartago/Orosi area
because in the past they had problems with flooding, soft soil etc. We were very interested in the good values you could get there-now we have doubts. Anyone have any info about the area?
Thank you

This is a great area with a good amount of tourism, fantastic views and very reasonable prices.

In select neighborhoods, there have been problems with flooding and/or landslides due to deforestation.  If you look at the articles and locations, you will see that most problems are for people who have built next to rivers or whose neighbors have cut trees.

If you carefully analyze the location of the property you are interested in and the surrounding area, you should be able to find something suitable.

This is true for any property in Costa Rica and a great reason to work with a qualified realtor!
