Helo!!

Great sight!! I work in Information Technology and want to relocate to CR. I am fairly young (27) and do not have any real equity. I would love to be able to find a job down there that would allow me to self sustain in a comfortable manner. Could anyone please recommend any resources for english speaking work in CR, preferably with computers? I am planning to learn spanish but cannot as of yet.
My goal is to learn about the places and culture of CR in a hands on manner before choosing it as my home. Any info you can provide that will help me accomplish that goal is very appreciated.

Hi Bobby,

Glad we can help!  You should look for companies hiring in the US or Europe for technicians in your IT specialty.  They may not require that you speak Spanish.  Two examples I can think of offhand would be a sportsbook and a call center.  The sportsbooks all have big networks and no matter what your specialty is they would have a need for it.  All of the programs would be in English, all of the employees would be speaking in English and they would more than likely be happy to help you get a work permit.

A call center is the same, with the advantage of they actually may need people supporting clients that only speak English on programs in English or even troubleshooting hardware in the U.S.

I am sure there are plenty more, the main benefits to you would be:
1 ) When you get hired from the US or Europe, your salary is normally higher than if you get hired within Costa Rica.

2) The company hiring you would be taking care of all the immigration issues (work permit, fees, legal fees) for you too.

Any salary from $20,000 to $40,000 should allow you to live comfortably and build equity.  (At $20,000 you would be comfortable but might find it hard to save, at $40,000 you would find it hard to spend all of your money - well maybe )   smiley

Hi Bobby,

There is a lot of private medical care in Costa Rica that would probably work well for you.  The 3 main private hospitals are:

CIMA hospital
Clinica Biblica
Hospital Clinica Catolica

In addition I thought of some other likely possibilities, depending on what you're looking for:

- Big resort communties - like Los Sueños, Four Seasons, Hacienda Pinilla, Reserva Conchal.  They are probably offering emergency treatment to their guests and may need RNs.

- Plastic Surgeons & Dentists.  A lot of people come here for these procedures that are not covered by insurance.  The surgeons do many procedures in their own clinics and need one or more nurses to assist.

The public clinics are probably out because the pay is so low.

Just to clarify you would probably earn less in Costa Rica than you would in the US and you have to have a work permit or residency in order to be employed by most companies.
