That's a little misleading. Hurricanes don't hit Costa Rica directly, and a hurricane in any case wouldn't hit on the Pacific

As you can see from any disaster images, the real damage in a hurricane is from the high waves that the hurricane pushes overland. That's where you get the upside down cars, boats, and trucks and the houses shattered into matchsticks. That type of damage won't happen in Costa Rica, because the hurricanes always veer north before they reach the coast.
When there is damage it is from the rain the hurricanes leave here, and it comes in the form of mud slides and flooding. So it is important to consider what surrounds any property you are considering buying, the mud slides normally come from deforestation above, or improper development.
