Flamingo Marina Concession StoppedThe concession for the construction of the Flamingo Marina has been frozen for now because the Municipality of Santa Cruz still does not have resources to contract a legal firm that advises it in the process.
To obtain the funds, the local government depends on the Comptrollor General to (Contraloría General de la República) approve a modification to the budget, "that includes the fees for an attorney's firm", said Braulio Moreno, member of the Marina Commission.
Because the previous legal advisor, Grettel Fernandez, did not renew the contract "because she was not able to make the process clear to the new city council that took over in May. ", Moreno affirmed.
The councilpersons that support the removal of the legal firm indicated that a new law firm - of which the name was not known - would charge a lower fees, which will result in savings.
Simultaneously, the majority of seven aldermen agreed to extend the term for receipt of the offers from the possible companies interested in constructing the Marina. The original term was to expire on August 18.
Moreno assured that in November they will be defining a new deadline to receive offers and to give continuity to the process.
Discomfort. This decision will slow down the project, which for almost three years has been in hands of the Municipality of Santa Cruz.
Eight companies have expressed interest in taking part in the concession bidding.
For Hubert Gysemans, from Desarrollos Naúticos S.A., and president of the Association of Flamingo's Development, "what here happens is clearer than the water: the aldermen are putting the Marina in the game of the Mayor's electoral campaign".
Salomón Ary also was upset about this situation, who said that the attitude of the aldermen denotes lack of seriousness in the process.
"They did not explain the motives of stopping a process that was going OK", Gysemans said, who added that the operation of the Marina, for 19 years, placed Flamingo as a tourist desired destiny.
