Hi,
What would you consider the coastal town(s) with bilingual schools best suited for my 8 year old boy and also do you have anything like the boyscouts?

Hi Gang! Thanks for participating in the forum.

I can tell you that Boy Scouts do exist in Costa Rica and there are many troops all over the country.  My brother-in-law used to go and they meet every Saturday in the park where I live.

As far as schools, that's a very good question.  A lot of families used to end up living in the Central Valley because this is where the good bilingual schools are.  Fortunately, the Country Day School has opened on the beach in Flamingo.  This is one of the best schools in Costa Rica and even internationally. Tamarindo is a good beach town with a lot of amenities and people there send their kids to CDS on the bus.  You can loook at the ABC Real Estate web site for some information about Tamarindo and ask about the bus ride:

You might also find that Jacó Beach has good bilingual schools.  I don't know of a specific one, but there has been a lot of development there and it's probable that a school has opened or soon will open in that area.  You can get some information here and contact the Go Dutch Jaco Beach specialist:

here is the link to the school.

Country Day School GTE
our child is there as well and it's a great school.  Smiley

The costs are about US$550 per month. They provide private bus transportation as well from and to school.
The school is located between Tamarindo and Flamingo close to the Melia Chonchal Beach Resort at Brasilito. As far as I know is this still the only good bilingual school on the beaches of Costa Rica.
Soon we will have as well another bilingual school close by. Prices are a little less. Currently they are buying the property. Construction will start in April 2004. They have no web page yet.

Hope this will gave you an idea.

Sincerely  Jogi
