Hello to everybody in the forum.

My wife, 4 year son and myself have decided to move to Costa Rica.

We presently live in Spain (we are Spanish citizens)  and have already done all the "legal" formalities at the Consulate in Barcelona on an investing residence status. We have also contacted (through the Consul's advice) a local immigration lawyer that will help us finalize the paperwork.

It is our plan to go to Costa Rica before all is in order to continue our research in July or August.

We do not want to land in a hotel but rather go to a short term rental apartment, that would allow us to cook home, go shopping and get a better feel of what really living on a daily basis is like in Costa Rica. Any suggestions?

We also want to use this time to:

-Investigate investment opportunities.
-Look for Schools for our son (Bilingual)

Thanks to all in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you are making a good start.  It sounds like your next step is to figure out where you would like to live. In the Central Valley you will have the most options for schooling for your son.  There are really good bi-lingual schools in every main area, either on the U.S.-European calendar (September-May) or on the Costa Rican calendar (Feb - December). So you can pick your area according to the climate and your budget.

In the outlying areas you still have a lot to choose from.  Tamarindo and Flamingo have the Country Day school, which is a big asset to those communities, there are plans for 1 or 2 more schools I believe for the area.  These schools are offering all grades from pre-school through high school. (K-12)

Costa Ricans are very concerned about there children getting a good education, so in most areas you will find at least one private bi-lingual grade school. Even today not too many of these schools have web sites, but if you are interested in living in an outlying area you should be able to find a good school through inquiring locally.

I would be happy to recommend an apartotel - do you have an area you are interested in exploring first?  A good choice could be around La Sabana.  That is very central and will allow you to get your bearings,  Some possibilities:
Apartotel Colaye (apartotelcolaye.com)
Apartotel La Sabana (apartotel-lasabana.com)

Are both pretty nice, with the Apartotel La Sabana being pricier and nicer.

Hi Russ

Thank you so much for your very interesting and informative reply.

We are initially interested in the Central Valley area.

I will certainly take a look at the apart hotels you suggest and,  if you don't mind, probably get back to you with other questions.

Best regards, and thanks again.

We know that even today not too many of these schools have web sites, but I think that this will be the great site than the others.
